Once all your results are entered, RaceApp can automatically calculate places and team scores with a single click. However, the auto-score feature needs your data to be organized correctly to work properly.
Before clicking “Auto Calculate,” make sure:
| Requirement | Why It Matters | How to Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Each race has only one division | Can’t score Varsity Boys against JV Girls | Move results to separate races |
| All heats are combined | 100m Heat 1 and Heat 2 need to be ranked together | Move results to combine into one race |
| Field events are split by division | Open pit events need separation before scoring | Move results to split by division |
Quick example: If you ran Boys Varsity and Boys JV 1600m together in one race, you need to create two races (one for each level) and move athletes to the correct race before scoring.

The point structure is set in “Edit Meet Details” using bracket notation:
| Configuration | What It Means |
|---|---|
[5,3,1] |
1st place = 5 pts, 2nd = 3 pts, 3rd = 1 pt, 4th+ = 0 pts |
[10,8,6,4,2,1] |
Six places score, descending points |
[5] |
Only 1st place scores (common for relays) |
[6,4,3,2,1] |
Five places score (common for dual meets) |
For Cross Country meets, scoring works differently: - Lowest score wins (1st place = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, etc.) - Only top 5 (or 7) runners per team count - These settings are configured when you select “Cross Country Meet” as your meet type
Note: Auto-score will overwrite any existing points, but you can manually edit them afterward if needed.
“My scores don’t look right” - Check that each race contains only one division - Make sure all heats are combined into a single race
“Some athletes have no place” - Athletes need a time (for running events) or measurement (for field events) to be ranked - Check for missing data and fill it in
“Cross country scoring seems backwards” - XC uses low-score-wins - that’s correct! 1st place = 1 point.
